The 色中色 is embarking on an ambitious digital transformation journey. We are seeking an experienced technology leader to drive innovation focusing on HR systems. This role is central to modernising our technological capabilities and supporting the university's strategic objectives. 

Role Overview: Lead technical development of HR systems and digital transformation, managing a team of three developers and driving innovative IT solutions across the university.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain HR systems, including iTrent, custom built apps and integrations, SharePoint, Power Apps and Automations used by HR.
  • Lead on service delivery, ensuring progress of service requests and incidents within the HR systems remit.
  • Resource planning and leadership of a team of developers working collaboratively with portfolio managers and other principal engineers and developers to scope projects and small works.
  • Oversee vendor relationships monitoring performance and acting as technical liaison alongside product and business owners.

Technical Skills:

Experience of iTrent is essential for this role and working knowledge / experience of some of the following would be advantageous.

  • Oracle PL/SQL, Java Spring, Javascript, SQL
  • Git, Github, Azure DevOps
  • PowerBI, Business Objects
  • SharePoint, Power Apps, Power Automate
  • On Prem to Cloud Migrations

What is our University Data Hub? 
The University is undertaking a strategic project to enhance its Data & Insights capability – enabling the right people to access information and insights at the right time, with the right quality. We are building a brand-new University Data Hub in the AWS cloud, replacing an old on-premises solution. The UDH will transform and integrate data from various sources, including live operating data, key data snapshots, and external datasets. It will manage structured and unstructured datasets, analyse incoming data quality to inform data governance, act as a single source of truth, and support all analytics activities. It will underpin reports and dashboards via the Data Marketplace, with advanced modelling and machine learning as internal capacity and capability allow. 
  
What will you do? 

  • Develop and optimise ETL pipelines using AWS Glue, Kinesis, and Step Functions 
  • Manage and enhance data lakes with S3, Athena, and Lake Formation
  • Implement robust data quality processes using Glue Data Quality 
  • Design event-driven architectures with EventBridge and Lambda 

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain a state-of-the-art data infrastructure 
  • Support a self-service data platform serving over 3,500 staff 
  • Create real-time analytics solutions to provide operational insights

This data will provide insights and actionable recommendations to support decision making. By unlocking the value in our data, we will maximise student and staff experience by tailoring our services.

The digital transformation journey is also transforming the way in data & technology services are delivered. The Digital, Data & Technology Department (DDaT) is a passionate community of technical experts who provide digital, data and technology services that are accessible, relevant, and secure. We are motivated by helping people solve problems, be more effective in what they do today and innovating to raise the bar of what can be achieved in future. 

Significant change in technology and service provision is anticipated and it is vital to have effective, proactive engagement with other departments and faculties. This will address a key improvement required within the Evolution project to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver greater efficiency, coherence, cooperation and coordination. 

The Enterprise Data Architect role sits within the Data & Technology pillar within DDaT. You will work closely with the Chief Data & Technology Officer (CDTO) and stakeholders from around the business on the creation and measurement of the university’s data strategy. You will provide data architecture leadership, setting the data architecture standards and ways of working for the data community.

There is a market supplement of up to £8,000 available at our discretion, based on skills and experience.

About you

You will be a subject matter expert and trusted partner with excellent communication skills working professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, business stakeholders, business analysts and project managers, to ensure that solutions are aligned with the reference architecture to deliver maximum value to the business. 

You will lead the architecture of the university’s Enterprise Data Hub, to act as a single source of quality assured data to underpin insight and data-driven services as well as leading and managing a team of circa. 8 people plus contractors.

Capable of operating across a wide-ranging technology stack including SaaS, PaaS, Commercial off the Shelf as well as in-house custom developed solutions, have the knowledge and skills necessary to take functional and non-functional requirements, provide expert architectural direction to engineering teams based on these requirements and evaluate engineering designs against architectural standards.

You will be part of a team of Senior Service Analysts supporting the administrative, learning, teaching, and research activities of the University. You will be actively involved in the day-to-day delivery of specialist IT support to the University, acting as the point of escalation for incidents, requests and changes, and will provide technical expertise in your area.

A typical day may see you helping to set up and deploying equipment within a research laboratory, providing advice and guidance on specialist software requests, or installing software for a computational project across a wide range of hardware and operating systems. However, no two days are the same, as every single day brings its own new challenges and opportunities to gain experience. This team supports novel scenarios and bespoke solutions that are unique to the University environment.

You will also assist in developing our support services, whilst maintaining positive relationships with both the customer-base and staff within DDaT.

About you 

An ideal candidate in this role would have the following:

  • Proven experience of supporting IT hardware, software, and services (1st and 2nd tier), ideally in an academic environment
  • Familiarity with using, maintaining, and supporting multiple operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux, and mobile operating systems
  • A deep understanding of technology, and demonstrable IT Support skills
  • Functional knowledge of IT Service Management principles, including service desk experience
  • Self-motivation to explore new technologies and solutions
  • An ability to self-manage, prioritise own workload, and to work independently, or in a team with your peers
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

You will be a highly motivated and proactive problem solver, with a strong technical capability. You will be able to independently research and resolve complex issues and go beyond traditional service desk duties to provide advanced IT support. You will be looking to develop skills in all facets of IT, to support the diverse needs of the University.

You will handle 1st and 2nd line desktop support issues as part of a Windows 11 rollout project. The organisation is broadening its IT Support and therefore support in these areas may also be required. 

Key skills required for this role

Windows 11 deployments 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide 1st and 2nd line desktop support to end users. 
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and support of Windows operating systems on devices. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the Windows 11 deployment. 
  • Swap out devices as required and address any ongoing technical issues for users.
  • Work closely with IT teams to ensure minimal disruption during the installation process. 
  • Provide technical support and training to end users post-deployment. 
  • Support the creation of detailed deployment documentation and reports. 
  • Conduct compatibility assessments of hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with the project manager, project team and stakeholders to meet deployment deadlines. 

These roles are offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 01/11/2025. 

About You

  • Proven experience in device deployments, particularly with Windows operating systems.
  • In-depth understanding of Windows deployment processes and tools. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Experience working with ITSM systems and reporting tools. 
  • Prior experience in the HE sector is advantageous, but not essential.
