This hands-on post is an exciting opportunity to work in our Chemistry teaching laboratories, supporting world-class teaching.

About the role

Working to assist members of the technical team, your duties will include supporting the set-up, turn-around and clear down of a wide range of undergraduate practical classes. With a focus on efficiency, the role includes:

  • organizing glassware
  • basic chemical preparation
  • PAT -testing
  • preparing laboratory materials for washing and/or sterilization
  • supplying laboratory materials
  • ensuring laboratory housekeeping is carried out to an impeccable standard

You will also contribute to the smooth running of the departments’ communal research facilities including autoclaves, wash–up facilities, glasshouses, waste stores and organism facilities. Whilst your role will support staff in research, you won’t be carrying out any research.

About you

  • have an understanding of higher risk activities 

Technical or laboratory experience is not essential but would be a bonus.

About the role

You will be expected to use your experience and skills to effectively support the delivery of laboratory-based teaching activities across our MSc programmes. 

The role will involve working with academic staff and MSc students to facilitate the smooth running of the laboratory classes, contributing to the assessment of MSc student work, assisting with the development of new teaching activities and supporting MSc student’s research projects. 

With excellent practical skills you will lead the technical team across the MSc’s main experimental research themes; focusing on molecular biology, microbiology, and tissue engineering. Ideally, you will have significant experience and practical knowledge in one of these main areas. 

Examples techniques include; nucleic acid amplification and purification, cloning, bacterial/fungal transformations, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, microbial fermentation, mammalian cell-culture, protein quantification and visualisation, immunohistology.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Finance Team.

This varied and interesting post will involve close liaison with the staff within our academic departments, faculty-based teams, central professional services and external organisations. 

Key tasks will include providing financial support, advice and guidance to grant holders in the faculty, monitoring research grants and contracts, studentships, short courses and conferences and ensuring that principle investigators have access to summary and accurate financial information.

This is a full-time, permanent role.

There is flexibility in the working pattern and will be a mix of remote and on-campus working. 

About you

You should be part-qualified and working towards (or willing to) AAT level 4, or with an equivalent relevant professional experience. 

You will have worked in a busy accounting/financial environment where excellent communication skills are essential. 

You will be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and will be willing to acquire further IT skills. 

You will also have experience of and enjoy working as part of a team in a confidential setting. 

A good track record in financial administration is essential.

Skills in the use of financial management software will be an added advantage. 

An interest in our work and a willingness to become fully involved in the life of the faculty is equally important.
