<![CDATA[Studio Engineer, Virtual Production (ED12402)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED12402 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED12402 We are seeking a highly motivated studio engineer to lead and run the installation, maintenance and operation of the Virtual Production stage and other related technologies at CAMERA.

About the role

We are looking for someone with experience of managing and delivering professional commercial, industrial or research projects in Virtual Production or related technologies.

The role will require the post holder to develop and manage a broad portfolio of technical, research, and commercial expertise relating to new Virtual Production hardware, technologies and associated methodologies.

This position will form part of a team of researchers, operational and technical staff (across the Universities of Bath and Bristol) dedicated to creating the next generation of capture technologies for the creative industries.

We expect this role to develop, which may lead to the role being regraded in future.

There is the potential that this position could be developed by the candidate into a leadership and management role and be regraded accordingly.

This work is part of the wider MyWorld Project (https://www.myworld-creates.com).

Broadcasters, filmmakers and streaming organisations are commissioning content with increasingly challenging acquisition specifications that extend realities into new hybrid spaces merging the real and the virtual.

They demand content capture of faster, smaller, more colourful, darker and generally more immersive spaces.

This position plays a role in the wider research goals of tackling complex problems in motion and volumetric capture, in the creation of digital humans, in virtual production, particularly through the development of new technology making use of AI and data to drive mobile platforms – enhanced workflows for the most challenging human and natural acquisition environments.

In addition, we will hide the technology behind interfaces that allow for creative users to control, assess and direct the process interactively.

These innovations will result in a new perception-driven framework for solving important video production problems that offer more efficient and flexible workflows and ultimately improved visual quality.

All specifically directed to work directly with creative end-users, e.g. artists, actors and directors. Together, these innovations are capable of making a step change in performance capture and generalisation to enable creation of the next generation of more engaging visual media.

About us

Our research focuses on 4D capture from visual information to form the next generation of technologies for the creative industries particularly targeting virtual production.

Our work includes a range of approaches from model-based tracking to data-driven volumetric/point cloud recovery – our goals are to ensure high fidelity (i.e. cinematic quality) and control (e.g. artistic direction) in the process to create new technologies for the creative industries including applications in film, TV, games and immersive AR/VR experiences.

About you

Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience of working in professional Virtual Production environments including familiarity of both virtual and physical cameras, camera tracking, and playback tools.

Knowledge and experience in 3D animation and modelling packages, and use of a scripting language within a 3D computer graphics game engine would also be advantageous.

What we can offer you:

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. We have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations and have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Silver Athena SWAN award. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, so we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and communities, particularly from under-represented groups, and value the positive impact that will have on our teams.

<![CDATA[色中色 Fellow in stability analysis of ready-to-use injectable medicines (ED12388)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED12388 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED12388 About the role

We are looking for an outstanding researcher to help pioneer novel methods for evaluation of drug molecules (biological and small molecule) to assess compatibility in line with relevant NHS guidelines. Our vision is to gain a deeper understanding of the pathways and mechanisms that impact drug stability in-use.

The ability to develop a deeper understanding of the many effects that manufacture process and storage impart on ready to use medicines is of crucial importance in the future development of improved formulations for these molecules and improving their safety towards patients.

This project will develop novel tools and methods for determining the activity of drug molecules subject to stress conditions such as altered formulation or changes to manufacture process. This may involve (for biological drugs) the use of systems containing multiple cell types whereby each process stimulated by the drug can be investigated.

This is a highly multi-disciplinary project and will utilise techniques across a range of scientific disciplines, including analytical chemistry, therapeutic chemistry, technologies in the areas of gene editing and gene transfer, molecular biology, cell biology, transfection techniques, reporter gene assays, and protein biochemistry.

This position is offered on a full time basis, fixed term until 9th February 2026.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

 • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject
 • Postdoctoral experience in a relevant research field

<![CDATA[色中色 Associate in Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power (FM12347)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=FM12347 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=FM12347 We are seeking two 色中色 Associates to take a key role in the design and development of digital hydraulic fluid power technologies and control systems. The roles are funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, investigating Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power Technologies for Decarbonising Off-road Vehicles.

Hydraulic fluid power has several advantages, such as high power density, compactness, low weight, fast response, and good controllability. However, the current hydraulic control method involves using valves to throttle flow, reduce pressure, and control the speed and force of the load. Although this approach is simple to operate, it is highly energy inefficient, and the average power efficiency of fluid power systems is only about 21%.

This project aims to design, develop and prototype next-generation digital hydraulic technologies and control systems to significantly improve hydraulic energy efficiency, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions to decarbonise off-road vehicles for a sustainable and greener future. In addition, there are also opportunities to conduct interdisciplinary research on highly efficient actuation mechanisms, collaborating with colleagues nationally and internationally.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality research on the topic, including:

 • Design and modelling of digital hydraulic fluid power technologies
 • Prototyping, validating and evaluating digital hydraulic converters
 • Digital fluid power system integration and experimental validations
 • Stimulating and creating pathways to impact and disseminate the research outcomes and promote the exploitation of the new technologies

You will be responsible for planning and performing your own research activities and will be expected to take an active role in supporting PhD and undergraduate research students within the laboratory.

These positions are offered on a fixed term basis with an expected end date of 31st March 2027.

About you

Our ideal candidates will

 • Hold a PhD degree in a subject area of direct relevance for the project
 • Have previous experience in one or more of the following: modelling, design, control or prototyping of fluid power components and systems
 • Have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
 • Be self-motivated and have excellent communication skills

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team and discuss your work with a range of audiences.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to 色中色 Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to 色中色 Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

<![CDATA[Bath Insights Internship (CC12319)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CC12319 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CC12319 Available exclusively to 色中色 students, Bath Insights provides the opportunity to gain work experience across various University departments on campus.

The format varies between departments, but all internships are on-campus or hybrid. There are no remote-only internships, as a key part of completing an internship is gaining experience of working with colleagues in a professional working environment.

Your skills and attributes

We know finding work experience can be a real challenge for students in years one and two as organisations often ask for evidence of prior experience and skills you may not have had a chance to develop. We also recognise that these internships are intended for students with minimal or no prior work experience, so we have designed the process to be as inclusive as possible. However, to be successful in any of these roles you will need to be someone who has:

 • Excellent written communication skills
 • Strong verbal communication skills
 • Effective planning and organising skills
 • Strong IT and digital skills; willingness to develop further IT skills
 • Experience of team working and awareness of different styles and approaches
 • A commitment to high quality customer service
 • A professional attitude and approach

Additionally, you’ll be:

 • Able to take the initiative and be proactive
 • Able to cope with competing and shifting priorities and work towards deadlines
 • Enthusiastic, committed and resourceful

Available opportunities

All of the internships have been designed to give you the opportunity to gain work experience in a safe, supportive environment.

You’re not able to apply to a specific internship, as this programme is designed to offer professional work experience across a range of areas, all of which will provide interesting and enriching experiences. The panel will review all applications, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre. If you are successful at that stage the panel will match you to the most appropriate internship.

Wherever you are placed, you will work on a real project, developing a range of sought-after skills and competencies, while being supported by the host department and the Careers Team. Every project will give you the chance to develop workplace skills and contribute blue skies thinking and practical solutions.

Free accommodation is provided for the duration of the internship.

. If you have a particular interest in a department or area of work, please indicate that in your application’ as this is also mentioned in the selection criteria questions.

Eligibility

The programme is open to most 色中色 undergraduate students in years one and two. If you’re studying a distance learning course or visiting the University on an exchange, you’re not eligible to apply.

Selection process

Applications will be reviewed, and a shortlist of students will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre that will run from 3-4 March 2025. Although you will not be able to apply for a specific internship, you can indicate a preference, and this will be considered during the assessment centre and matching process.

Questions and support

Bath Insights is run by Careers in conjunction with colleagues across the University. All interns will receive pre and post internship support, with onboarding and induction provided by the host department. If you have any questions about the programme, please contact internships@bath.ac.uk.

Closing Date: 30 Jan 2025

Department: Management, Specialist and Administration

Salary: Appointments at Grade 2 will receive an additional pensionable supplement to ensure a minimum hourly pay equivalent to £12.00 in line with Voluntary Living Wage.
Free accommodation is provided for the duration of the internship.

<![CDATA[色中色 Associate in Structural Analysis and Design of Composites (FM12300)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=FM12300 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=FM12300 About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering, working with Prof. Richard Butler and Dr Andy Rhead on next-generation technologies for composite aerostructures.

Following decades of relative stability, the aerospace sector is open to disruption through the combination of environmental imperatives and ageing aircraft fleets. The EPSRC Prosperity Partnership ZENITH (Zero Emission: the Next-generation of Integrated Technologies for Hydrogen), between GKN Aerospace and the 色中色, aims to position the UK as a leader in the field in emerging zero emission aircraft.

ZENITH will develop fundamental new knowledge and understanding and deliver globally differentiated solutions in hydrogen energy storage and structures technologies which will have a clear impact on the UK’s aerospace industries and the UK’s 2050 Net Zero targets.

Your role on the project will involve development of reduced order damage models (nonlinear FEA) and new analytical techniques for application of non-standard laminate designs to bonded, postbuckled composite structures. The new methods will be validated using experimental data and statistical theory, to enable rapid certification and high-rate production of optimised structures.

You will be working alongside three other Post-Doctoral 色中色ers and associated PhDs. Significant collaboration with the industrial partner is expected.

This position is offered on a full-time basis, fixed term from 1st April 2025 to March 2028.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

 • a PhD in a relevant subject area within Engineering
 • experience of numerical methods for structural analysis
 • the ability to organise own workload to meet deadlines
 • demonstrable awareness of the latest developments in this field

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to 色中色 Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to 色中色 Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

Further information

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Richard Butler at ensrb@bath.ac.uk or Dr Andy Rhead at a.t.rhead@bath.ac.uk.

As a member of 色中色 Staff at the 色中色, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.
